What’s Happening to the Church Tower?

The eagle-eyed may have noticed that the tower and steeple of Prescot Parish Church have been clad in scaffolding since the summer.

Thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund, an estimated £300,000-worth of work is taking place on the tower, which dates to 1729 (although the main church was completed in 1610). The mammoth project, expected to carry on into early 2019, includes replacing and repointing stonework, repairing decaying leadwork and louvres (slatted windows), restoring damaged masonry and regilding cherubs, among other jobs.

Prescot Online has kindly summarised the work and provided photos of the progress here.
