Heritage & History

An ancient market town, Prescot was once an important centre of trade and culture in West Lancashire. While Prescotians proudly celebrate their Lancastrian heritage, the town now sits in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, in Merseyside.

The magnificent Church of St Mary the Blessed Virgin dates to 1610, and it is Knowsley’s only Grade I listed building. Feel free to drop in on any Saturday from May to September between 10am and 2pm to tour the building and learn about its history or simply to sit and feel the benefit of the tranquil atmosphere.
