West Wall

As you leave the chancel area down the steps, look towards the west doors, where you entered the church. You will see the stucco wall of red roses, which depicts a window.

It covers an area which was at one time was a singers gallery and organ loft. Access to the gallery would have been through the inside of the tower. In 1875 the choir and organ were moved from the west end to the chancel, and the area was sealed off and plastered over. The red rose is an emblem of the Virgin Mary.
