It is Day 1 of Thy Kingdom Come, and in Prescot we are joining hundreds of other parishes across the UK and beyond for 11 days of prayer between Ascension and Pentecost.
Today we begin our journey with the Eucharist for the Feast of the Ascension at 7.30pm, both in person at St Mary’s and live online at facebook.com/prescotparishchurch, and Compline, or Night Prayer, live online at the usual time of 9.30pm.
The Ascension marks Jesus’ return to the Father in heaven, 40 days after his resurrection. He left his disciples with the promise of the Holy Spirit, the presence of God himself to empower them in their mission. We look forward to the fulfilment of that promise on the Feast of Pentecost, on Sunday 23 May.
Tomorrow we’ll be talking about the ancient Christian tradition of the Daily Office, or Daily Prayer, and sharing live links to services Morning and Evening Prayer from our diocesan cathedral of Liverpool. Everyone is welcome to join us today and every day until 23 May as we draw closer to God together.
Don’t forget there are events online or offline every day throughout Thy Kingdom Come (13-23 May) – click here for details, including Tuesday 18 May’s ‘Prescot Prayer Journey.’
